Magohashi-yu (open 03:00 p.m.~11:30 p.m.)
The water is so clean, mild, and tasty that people make sake, tofu, and soy sauce with the water.
“Just bring yourself”
This onsen, run by a man, Yoshihiro Tsuji has pumped up the groundwater for more than 70 years since his father started Magohashi-yu.
The water in this area is special. It’s so clean, mild, and tasty that people make sake, tofu, and soy sauce with the water. We use that same local water for onsen here.
How do the guests respond to the water?
They say it’s soft and good for their skin.
What can they expect other than the water when they visit?
Well, we offer the soap and shampoo for free in the bathroom. And you can rent the towel.
So, we don’t need anything?
I think the easiness is the main reason why people visit us.
“Best way to shift away from the day.”
So, would you say you have the friendliest public bath for beginners?
I believe so. Just note that you need to take off your shoes at the entrance and you mustn’t go into the bathroom with your underwear.
What is the attraction of the onsen experience do you think?
Onsen cleans up all the stresses. It is the best way to shift away from the day. Even if that day was very fun or not satisfying, switch your head toward tomorrow here at Magohashi-yu!
What do you recommend for sightseeing in Kyoto?
First, I love drinking sake at Gion or Kiyamachi area.
Second, I like the local museums, too. Kyoto has lots of museums. My favorite place is
Netsuke Museum. I am always impressed by the works displayed there.
You don’t have to hesitate to try the first onsen experience. Yoshihiro is a very kind and friendly man. He will give you any help when you need it.
